Acupuncture

Acupuncture needle Seamus qualified as an acupuncturist at the College of Traditional Acupuncture UK, which specialises in 5 Element acupuncture, in 1993 and is a member of the British acupuncture council. The 5 Element style can be described as a person centred rather than symptom based approach in that the emotional characteristics of the person play a key role in diagnosis and treatment as well as taking the symptoms into account. Symptoms that can be effectively treated include panic attics, anxiety, fatigue, digestive problems, irritable bowel, menstrual and fertility issues, back problems, sciatica, trigeminal neuralgia, facial paralysis, sinus, asthma, migraine, poor sleep and many more.

In the first treatment the acupuncturist seeks to get an overall picture of the client, including lifestyle, diet, work, medical history and emotional wellbeing. A physical examination is carried out if appropriate and tongue and pulse diagnosis are also used. The number of treatments required depends on the severity of the condition, on how chronic it is and also on the person’s general level of health. The acupuncturist aims to establish new patterns energetically and the frequency of treatment is an important part of this process especially in the beginning. Once a new pattern is established the treatments are less frequent with follow up maintenance treatments if required.

The first treatment is 1 hour 15 minutes in duration. Subsequent treatments are 1 hour in duration.

Acupuncture is an excellent form of health maintenance and way to keep functioning at optimum levels as well as being a preventative measure. The story goes that in ancient China patients paid their acupuncturist to keep them well but if they got sick the acupuncturist had to pay them!
